Debian:About
From Linux 101, The beginner's guide to all things Linux.
Debian is a Linux distribution driven by thousands of volunteers and owned by no company. It is available for eleven computer architectures, including the popular ones such as x86 and PPC.
Some of its strengths include:
- Vast, constantly updated package repository
- Advanced package management tools
- Appropriate for the critical servers as well as workstations
- Fast security updates
- Most configuration is done by hand instead of by limiting GUI tools
- Debian is one of the only completely non-commercial distributions.
