Note: If you plan to erase all other operating systems and data on your hard drive, you can skip this step. |
If you have another OS installed like Windows, you will probably need to repartition your hard drive to make room for Linux. Use a bootable CD like the SystemRescueCD to resize your partitions. Download and burn the ISO to a CD. Restart your computer and boot from CD-ROM. After it boots, execute:
- #
run_qtparted
and resize your partitions to your choosing. 10 GB would be plenty to get you started.
[edit] Installing
The easiest way to install Fedora is with CD-ROM's. CD's 1-3 are required.
- Download Locations
- http://help.ces.clemson.edu/linux (on campus only)
- http://fedora.redhat.com to find a mirror
With all 3 CD's burnt, you can now restart your computer and boot from the CD. It will ask you some questions, but if you get stuck there is built-in help.
[edit] Partitioning
For new users, it's recommended that you let it auto-partition your hard drive. If you are keeping Windows on there, make sure you tell it to just use the free space, not take over the entire hard drive!
[edit] Type of Installation
You will also be asked what kind of install (Personal, Workstation, Server, etc.). Workstation is highly recommended.
